Sonya Welch-Moring founder of Ancestral Constellations is offering the third Modular training programme, focused on the generational Lives of BIPOC/Diaspora Communities. The Ancestral Constellations approach is experiential and emergent, a process of mapping relationships and systemic networks that help to surface invisible or unspoken family dynamics.
This model of transgenerational work is holistic and can be used to explore the norms and
values that are specific to diaspora family life. It is a powerful, solution focused integration of
Western and Ancestral thinking, that creates a practice emphasising both individualistic
and community traditions.
The programme has been developed for participants who already have a field of practice that they can integrate their learning into. Personal openness to learning about your family lineage and professional interest in the Ancestral Constellations approach and how to use it within your practice will be required.
The programme includes elements of family search, ancestral and Indigenous traditions and healing ritual. There are also 2x 3 hour Online Mentoring Circles Sessions included in the programme. The vision is to provide a pathway for BIPOC people to train in transgenerational family work from an African, indigenous and ancestral centred perspective.

Please indicate during the booking process whether you would prefer shared or single accommodation.
The Modular Training takes place over 12 days (72 hours) in total. The intention is to fill a gap in therapeutic and holistic knowledge about Diaspora BIPOC Transgenerational Lives. The training is for people who want to integrate constellations into their professional practice on a 1-to-1 or small group (3-4 people)
The main theory is covered in handouts and learning from feedback during practice. Participants will be guided to books and articles that can deepen their theoretical thinking.
During the training you will........
Explore the core skills of transgenerational family work from a Diaspora perspective
Be mentored by a senior facilitator with over 20 years of therapeutic experience
Identify some of the key issues that impact BIPOC transgenerational lives
Reflect on how to integrate the approach into your professional practice
After the training you will........
1. Continue your journey of personal healing
2. Be able to map family constellations when working 1:1 with clients
3. Have created and customised your own constellations toolkit
4. Understand the role of the facilitator when working with small groups
The programme is designed for those new to systemic constellations and transgenerational family work. It is for people from BIPOC communities who are interested in an indigenous ancestral perspective and how it can support transgenerational families within a Western Diaspora context. There are elements of family research and you can expect to build a greater awareness of and connection to older cultural and wisdom traditions.
The practice element of the course will focus on family dynamics and entanglements as they impact Black/communities of colour. This entails creating a framework that looks at family within a social and community context, exploring the principles of Ancestral Constellations from both a Western psychosocial and African/Indigenous perspective.
This programme will suit you if you are on a journey of personal and family healing And/or participants who already have a field of practice and want to build additional skills and knowledge about indigenous and ancestral healing to integrate into your work. You will need to find a way to adapt the process to fit your practice.
It can also be a useful approach if you..........
Work with multi-identity families and communities and are looking for a new perspective
Want to integrate the Ancestral Constellations approach into your individual practice
Want to learn more about African ancestral approaches to transgenerational healing
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Bert Hellinger developed the Systemic Constellation method and integrated his learnings from Zulu Ancestral traditions into a Western methodology that he named family constellations..
My framework is the reverse, I adapt a Western therapeutic process and integrate it with an experiential healing ritual that I frame as Ancestral Constellations.
Healing Ritual is cathartic and non-linear. It shape-shifts and it requires participants to sit with 'not-knowing' and sometimes confusion and discomfort, here you will find learning on the edge.
This is a participative approach with a strong focus on demonstration as a learning tool. You will experience different approaches to constellations based on personal, family and work contexts.
This is a personal development and professional skills based programme over 9 months. It is not an academic training, nor is there currently any psychotherapeutic certification for the training.
Systemic and family constellation facilitators are guided by working with the ‘flow of energy’ in the constellation. During the programme there will be demonstrations that work with this principle and a mix of theoretical content and experiential learning, (80% experiential and participative and 20% other learning content).
Each day there will be space for reflection and practice demonstrations. We will start with individual and paired exercises during Module 1 and lead to small group constellation practice and feedback circles during Module 2.
PRACTITIONER LEVEL LEARNING
By the end of the Foundation Training participants will be able to articulate the fundamental principles and concepts that structure the Ancestral Constellation process. You will have learnt.......
Learn how to Map a Constellation - the Elements of the constellation
Review the roles in the process, the client, facilitator, representative, observer
Explore patterns and entanglements that exist in family systems drawing on personal and group experience
Take part in experiential learning on the main systemic principles of the method.
Think deeply about trauma as an ancestral legacy and how it presents during the process
Reflect on Integrating Constellations into Professional Practice and check personal readiness to do the work
The practitioner training will give you ...
The core principles and practice of the Ancestral Constellations process
In-depth experiential exploration of the main elements of the mapping process
Reflection on how to integrate the approach into your work modality
WHAT YOU CAN DO AFTER THE PROGRAMME
A. Begin to integrate the constellations process into your area of expertise
B. Have core skills to map constellations on a 1-to-1 basis with clients
C. Knowledge about how to work with small groups of 3-4 participants.
PLEASE NOTE:
In terms of experience, most people that will come to the work will have a professional training or qualification in an area of their expertise. At this level of training there is no assessment of competence. I aim to be a guide and support to participants who will explore their readiness to integrate the process into their own practice.
The training will not teach you how to work with groups larger than 3-4 people, for that you will need to extend your training into Module 3: Ancestral Constellations Emergent Facilitator Training
BAATN will not be co-hosting this programme as we are a small cohort of 10-12 and it is not financially viable. You will receive a Ancestral Constellations Certificate of Completion at the end of the training which requires 80% attendance
Emergent Facilitator Module 3
The process of becoming an effective constellation facilitator takes a long time. This is because the practice requires knowing about the principles and concepts of the process.
But more importantly it requires you to become skilled in working with group energy and your own personal energy accessed through intuition and inner knowing.
The best and only way to really learn this deep healing process is through experience. That means practice and review and reflection and then practice.
In additional to this you need skills in managing group dynamics, if you want to work with people in person, not just online.
Although the energetic online process can be very powerful, if you want to work offline with groups, you MUST do some learning and practice in-person.
This is in order to access the energy of the group in your own body and be guided in your facilitation practice by that intuitive felt sense of 'the next step' to take.
The Emergent Facilitator Training will provide you with the necessary skills to work with intermediate size group of 6-8
